Fly fishing
Angling Pronunciation: 'a[ng]-gli[ng] noun the action of one who angles; especially : the action or sport of fishing with hook and line. Ok well um...what do I say ? This is more than a sport or an outdoor activity that I am fond of . This a real passion. I have been fishing for more than forty years now and this is something I will never stop doing. But fly fishing is something fairly new,I have eight or nine years under my belt and I will never give it up. This is something that totally consumes me , I think about it all the time. I actually started tying flies before I ever even made my first cast ! .For the first year I couldn't even catch a cold with a fly rod, but then just like everything else, things started to go my way and I've never looked back. When you have a large fish on with a fly rod the sentation is like no other type of fishing out there. The reel starts screaming , the fish is pulling and and the battle is on. You have to be careful in the way you play them ,because I have seen plenty of broken rods out there. Salmon are notorious for straightening out a hook , so this also adds to the excitement. Geez , I love this stuff. Go to the Gallery to check out some fish Currently I am now using five setups and I will list them as follows(Manufacturers links will be at the bottom of the page): I have just recently purchased a Temple Fork Outfitters Lefty Krey Pro Series 8 weight 13.3 foot Skagit Spey (two handed) rod. It is paired up with a TFO 425 Large Arbor reel. On this beauty is 30 lb. backing attached to a Jim Vincent's Rio MidSpey full floater at 640 grains. All I can say is these guys at TFO know how to build really excellent rods at incredible prices. This is one sweet rod. I highly suggest you give them a try. For dry fly fishing I use a Temple Fork Outfitters Lefty Krey Pro Series 5 weight rod with a Tioga #6 large arbor reel loaded with 80 yds. of 20 lb.backing attached to Wulff Products Triangle taper 5 weight floater. The rod will be outfitted with either a Lamson Radius or a Sage 1800 series reel when the time and money allows. The Cortland 444 weight forward floater is on a spare spool. The Kensington 8.5 ft. 6 weight is now a back up rod. This setup I use on the Delaware river in New York. For Steelhead and Brown Trout I use a G.Loomis GL3 9ft. 7 wt.rod matched to a Tioga #8 LA reel loaded with 80 yds. of 30 lb. backing and 100 feet of Scientific Anglers running line. Also , a spare spool with 80 yd.s of 30 lb. backing with AirFlo Quad tip system. I am finding that this type of setup in open water is really the only way to go for my style of fishing. For Salmon I use either a St.Croix Imperial 9.6ft. 8 wt. rod with a Tioga #8reel or a G.Loomis GL2 9 ft. 9 wt. rod matched to a Scientfic Anglers System 2 model 8-9 reel loaded with 200 yds. of 30 lb. backing attached to 100 ft. os Scientific Anglers running line and a spare spool loaded with 150 yds. of 30 lb. backing attached to a Scientific Anglers Salmon/Steelhead 9wt. floating weight forward line. All leaders are either SA or Rio. Tippet material is usually Seaguar fluorocarbon in various sizes from 2 lb. to 12 lb. test. When time allows I will eventually get some fly pics up with the recipes.
